As well as squash being available during all opening hours, you are also able to indulge in your passion for racketball – or discover it! Rackets and balls for this are available at the club for use
Table tennis facilities are also present and can easily be set up upon request. There is a regular social table tennis evening on Fridays.
Team squash is a big part of Leyburn Community Leisure Club. We have three men’s teams and two women’s teams. The men compete in the North Yorkshire Squash League, with Team 1 competing in Division 1 and Teams 2 and 3 competing in Division 2. The fixtures are always on a Thursday evening with all three teams attracting outstanding support from our members.
The ladies play their squash in the Durham and Cleveland League; the first team play in Division 1 and usually play their matches on a Sunday night, which always proves to be a well-supported social evening.
We are a small but successful club that boast a proud history in the leagues in which we compete. This is highlighted by the fact that we are the current NYSL Division 1 and Division 2 champions and holders of the Division 1 and Division 2 5-Man knockout cups. Along with the mens’ successes, our Ladies also achieved promotion last season from Division 2 to Division 1.
We are very lucky to be able to offer Team Squash to our members; it is an incentive for many of our members to develop their skills with the aim of getting into one of our teams and playing competitive league squash.
For those that do not harbour ambitions of playing Team Squash, it is a great opportunity to come into the club on a match night and watch our home players compete against some of the best players across North Yorkshire and Durham and Cleveland.
For those members who do not play team squash but still want to play in a competitive environment, we offer internal league squash. We currently have 8 divisions that boast a wide range of ages and abilities, with the majority of our members getting involved in them. With both men and women competing against each other for promotion and relegation each month, it gives players the chance to meet and play against a variety of our members.
We keep the leagues varied and fresh by promoting 2 players and relegating 2 players each month. A prize is awarded to any player who wins their league and completes all their fixtures.
The club offers junior individual or group coaching lessons, from beginners to improver in a friendly environment. Several of our club juniors have progressed to represent Yorkshire, as well as playing in local tournaments.
We currently have a professional Level 3 coach who comes to the club every Wednesday. Sessions can be booked with him throughout the day for £25 for adults and £19 for juniors. We also have a team of Level 1 and 2 coaches who donate their time to provide coaching to our beginners and developing players.
These members are prepared to lend their time and expertise for free; all you have to do is book in with them and pay for the full court.
The ladies friendly league is for ladies who aren’t quite ready to play in the Durham and Cleaveland leagues but still wish to play competitively.
All standards are welcome and it is a great introduction to team squash, as a more relaxed league that gives our ladies to gain experience in a slightly less competitive manner. Many of the Friendly League players develop into solid team players for our club.
